City Public Works staff are currently working on site to move the sand dune hill in order to level out the ground to create a level cell pad. They are also hauling more scoria in for the equipment building pad and the new access road. In order to reduce erosion, they are using topsoil with beach grass to place on top of berms to take root. They will also be taking some topsoil stored from previous work on the City park project. This should reduce the need seeding and jute matting.

This fall, a construction supervisor will be on site to oversee the erection of the equipment building. The project is still on track to open the new Aalax landfill in 2028 and close the Ataqan landfill.
